Homeopathy Can Improve Health

Many people who choose homeopathic therapy for their chronic ailments and conditions report lasting improvements in their health, a new study finds.

At more than 100 German and Swiss homeopathic practices, researchers found that many patients reported long-term improvements in chronic conditions such as sleep problems, headaches and allergies.

Originating in Germany in the 1700s, homeopathy is based on the principle of “like cures like.” Substances that would typically create certain symptoms in a person can, in a highly diluted form, treat those same symptoms.

The current study looked at homeopathy patients’ quality of life and how they tended to fare in their day-to-day activities. The study was conducted by Dr. Claudia Witt, of Charite University Medical Center in Berlin, and appears in the journal BMC Public Health.

The findings are based on an eight-year follow-up of 3,709 adults and children treated at 103 homeopathic practices. Following the eight-year time span, Witt found that one-third were still undergoing homeopathic treatment, while less than a third had discontinued homeopathic therapy because their health had improved. Nearly a third had had stopped homeopathic treatment because they felt their treatment was ineffectual.

Patients in the study on average reported significant improvements in their symptoms over time. Nearly half of the study participants said their symptom severity had declined by at least 50 percent.

If an individual is on allopathic medications and begins to take a homeopathic remedy, homeopathic medications can be incorporated into allopathic treatment. Homeopathic treatment plans should include dietary modifications, exercise and supplements.

Homeopathy utilizes formulas that are nontoxic and have no side effects. Homeopathy is a proven system of healing which aids the natural tendency of the body to heal itself.
An experienced homeopath selects a remedy based on an extensive patient interview in addition to examining the symptoms of the illness that prompted the visit. Homeopathy remedies are non-addictive.
