HEALTH AND FITNESS: STRETCHING AND YOGA
January 15th, 2008
Stretching and yoga increases energy levels and productivity, speeds up metabolism and aids in stress reduction. Most standard stretching and yoga positions are achievable to some extent by the average person. Aside from one or two days a week for stretching and yoga, other days should include low-intensity aerobic activity such as brisk walking. Stretching and yoga workout routines combine strength, flexibility and balance training.
Stretching and yoga improves heart and lungs endurance, strengthens weak areas and stretches tight muscles. Through stretching and yoga, muscle toning is increased for the entire body while building endurance. Regular practice of stretching and yoga can reduce symptoms of many chronic health conditions. A class session of stretching and yoga usually progresses through a vinyasa, or series of yoga poses. All that’s required to practice stretching and yoga is a comfortable space and a yoga mat.
The effect of combining asanas (yoga postures) with coordinated pranayamas (breathing techniques) in stretching and yoga produces a sense of vitality and rejuvenation. Asana repetitions in stretching and yoga develop body strength. In stretching and yoga, standing poses may lead to sitting poses, followed by twists, supine poses, inversions, balance poses, back bends, and a final resting pose. In stretching and yoga, sequencing of asanas within a practice session allows for one pose to lead naturally into the next based on posture similarities.
Generally, in stretching and yoga, combinations of asanas result in a flowing style of yoga. In stretching and yoga, each posture is held for a brief time, which allows for awareness and concentration of thoughts. During stretching and yoga sessions, asanas stretch and strengthen muscles, ligaments and joints. In stretching and yoga, each asana develops the strength and balance necessary to prepare for more challenging postures. A stretching and yoga session is a complete workout, combining stretching, flexibility, strengthening, aerobic, and cardiovascular.
Forms of stretching and yoga range from restorative practice to physically challenging. If your stretching and yoga routine includes free weights or the treadmill, yoga practice at the end of the workout tones already warmed up muscles. and though I feel like it is helpful in terms of strength training and toning, I have not yet seen any results in terms of weight loss. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for the best type of yoga for weight loss or if there was anything I could add to my workout to make weight loss possible, or more efficient. Thanks for the helpful post.
