Acupuncture and Stop Smoking

Need another reason to add “quit smoking” to your to do list? How about the fact that even if you choose to smoke outside of your home you’re still exposing your environment to toxins?
Tobacco smoke contamination lingers even after a cigarette is extinguished, a phenomenon known as “third-hand” smoke. Smoking anyplace produces toxic particulate matter from tobacco smoke which gets into your hair and clothing.
Particulate matter from tobacco smoke is known to be toxic. According to the National Toxicology Program, particulate matter from tobacco smoke can contain as many as 250 poisonous gases, chemicals and metals, including: Carbon monoxide, arsenic, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, butane, and toluene (a chemical used in paint thinners), among others. Eleven of the compounds produced by tobacco smoke are categorized as Group 1 carcinogens, the most hazardous.
You can quit smoking now! Acupuncture has been used effectively to help stop addictions. Acupuncture stimulates the production of endorphins, which aids in reducing cravings while providing an overall sense of well being.
As people are becoming more and more health conscious and aware of their lifestyle choices, those who smoke are seeking an effective way to quit smoking. Recent studies have indicated that acupuncture may help resistant smokers quit smoking for good.
Acupuncture can reduce levels of harmful and toxic cigarette chemicals in the blood, curb smoking sensation and enhance overall health and energy.
It is estimated that smokers will attempt to quit two or three times or more before finally kicking the habit. Those who quit and then have the urge to start smoking again have a higher success rate of smoking cessation if they use acupuncture to stay off cigarettes.
When conventional methods to quit smoking are ineffective, such as nicotine patches or gum, smokers often look outside the conventional treatment methods and turn to complementary and alternative medicine. Acupuncture as an alternative approach to stop smoking has a growing number of converts.
For those individuals that are ready to quit and have a high motivation level to do so, acupuncture can empower you to live a smoke-free life. Acupuncture treatments aid in combating the irritability, jitters and restlessness that smokers typically experience when attempting to quit smoking. Acupuncture also aids in general body detoxification.
Treatment typically includes a combination of body acupuncture points and ear acupoints that influence the energetic pathways and organs that are linked to smoking habits. Each individual receives a tailored acupuncture course of treatment that addresses his or her specific diagnosis and constitution.
