Symptoms Of Sciatica
Sciatica pain occurs when a herniated vertebral disc presses on the sciatic nerve. Pain in the lower back or hip radiates down into the back of the leg. When the sciatic nerve is pinched, inflamed or damaged, pain may radiate along the length of the sciatic nerve to the foot.
Sciatica’s common symptoms:
· A tingling or burning sensation that runs down the leg.
· Leg weakness.
· A sensation of numbness in the leg.
· Leg cramps.
Acupuncture for sciatica causes the body to produce natural steroids and promotes the production of natural endorphins. Steroids decrease inflammation, while endorphins produced by the body reduce pain. By reducing pain, acupuncture decreases dependency on pain medications to alleviate the condition. Avoiding medication side effects is one reason to consider acupuncture for the treatment of sciatica.
Acupuncture treats sciatica by stimulating acupoints at both local pain sites and distal points away from the pain area to improve symptoms. Diagnosis and treatment assesses specific imbalances in the muscles and the body. Acupuncture corrects the imbalances as well as treating the symptoms of sciatica.
